Columbus started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of
the first scoring 2 runs on 2 hits. Jason Varitek led off and he drew a
walk. Rocco Baldelli followed and he doubled. Ron Belliard was next to the
plate, but was promptly struck out. Brad Wilkerson was up next and he would
ground out scoring a run. Khalil Greene came to the plate and smacked a
single scoring the final run of the inning. Columbus had 15 hits overall,
while Dominican had 7.
